I have recently discovered this amazing tea. If you like green tea or the benefits of green tea, then try it now. It's unbelievable. So what is matcha tea? It's super concentrated green tea which is full of nutrients and antioxidents, much more than average green tea. It is ground into a powder so you only need the tiniest amount. It boosts your metabolism and energises you, which can last up to 6 hours. It has been drunk in Japan by Buddhist monks for centuries as a ceremonial beverage and if you are lucky enough, you can see it made in the traditional way. Facial treatments

I have recently completed a course in Skin Care and Facials and am looking forward to starting to add this therapy to my business. You always learn interesting points when you train in a new therapy and it's exciting going back to college and learning new skills and information. For example, did you know that skin is classed as 'mature' once you are over 25 years old? So you haven't got as long as you think before being labelled as old! And howmany of you actually cleanse, tone and moisturise every day, let alone twice a day as you should? Not to mention exfoliation and face masks! Your skin really needs looking after, all with suitable products for your skin type. Do you really know what skin type you have? Many of us would think 'normal' but actually very few people have 'normal' skin and they tend to be youngsters. Aphrodisiac Essential Oils for Valentine's Day

It's not long until Valentine's Day and if you're planning a cosy night in with your loved one, why not consider adding some love spice into the mix? Colour Therapy for January

In the Bon belief system in Tibet, each season is allocated a colour. Using the associated colour in your life may enhance your well-being and good fortune. You don't have to redecorate your whole house, but if you're buying anything new or re-arranging ornaments or objects, just bear in mind the colour therapy belief. For example, consider it with regards to such things as flowers, vases, candles, towels and so on. The colour for the Winter season, which runs from December to early February is WHITE! How typical- I think Mother Nature has already borne this in mind and decided to help us out. Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist.

So I've finally done it. Yesterday I had my last practical assessment for my Sports/ Remedial massage diploma- and I passed! After a tricky back, neck and shoulder client, I managed to reduce the muscle tension and remove a few wee nodules so performed a successful massage. So it's now time for elbows, fists and arms and lots of nice stretches for everyone. If you've got any niggles or problem areas, or just fancy a deeper massage, then pay me a visit and I'll sort you out. I also had to be a guinea pig for a reflexology student so ended up having a sit down myself. I haven't had reflexology since I trained- nice surprise really.

Race For Life- I'm Famous!

I am now officially famous as my name has been seen in print! This month's International Therapist has a full page article about the Race for Life events in the north west that some of us helped out at. I was involved in the race at Tatton Park, in Cheshire and it was fun for all concerned. Lots of people were dressed in silly costumes and didn't care how they looked as it was all for charity. It's a great cause and helps to raise much needed money for Cancer Research. Most people are touched in some way by this cruel illness and the more that we can do to help the better. Hence, free massages at Race for Life. Unfortunately, no pictures of yours truly but a mention will do for now!

Garlic- not just for vampires

All Hallows’ Eve is almost upon us again and everyone’s thoughts turn to ghosts and ghoulies (not just the trick or treaters). With the renewed interest in vampires lately, both in Hollywood and on the television, I’m sure there’s more than one person considering how many vampires will be about on the 31^st. Traditionally, it is assumed that garlic keeps the vampires at bay and leaves your neck completely safe. But it’s not just vampires that garlic is useful for. This wonderful bulb has many more uses and healing properties. It’s an antibiotic, anti-viral and a fungicide so you can see why it’s good for vampires. It can help with numerous stomach and digestive problems, and has been found useful for blood pressure and cholesterol problems. It’s been used in the past to help with all sorts of problems, from sore throats, to headaches, as well as a treatment for typhus. So, it seems it can protect us from a little more than a pesky nibble in the middle of the night.

Coconut Oil

I went to visit the Professional Beauty Show in Manchester this Monday. Obviously, I’m not a beautician but I thought I’d have a nosey as you can sometimes find a few things for the holistic business. I was in luck as I managed to bag myself some Coconut oil. Coconut oil is great for any type of head massage, such as Indian Head Massage or Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage. Why’s it so good, I hear you ask? Well it prevents premature greying, for a start and is moisturising for the hair. In medieval times, it was considered to have healing abilities. It adds extra nutrients to your hair, leaving it silky, shiny and glossy. It also prevents hair loss and helps to repair damaged hair. So all the more reason to come for a head massage. What are you waiting for?

Keep Your Spirits Up

This week seems to have heralded the end of summer and the coming of winter. I had to find a jacket to wear and it’s now getting darker much earlier- not much joy to many people. The winter months and changing of weather and daylight can really make some people’s lives a misery, especially those who suffer from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). However, there are ways that all of us can look on the bright side and try to keep our spirits up.

Light therapy is a good option for those who feel that they need a little extra brightness in the day, such as those suffering from S.A.D. These full spectrum lights provide a close approximation to daylight. However, aromatherapy can also help. Essential oils such as Black Pepper and Rosemary can help to counteract lethargy and fatigue that quite a lot of us will feel. Energising oils will also help to boost energy and mentality, especially citrus oils, such as Grapefruit, Lemon and Mandarin. A blend of these oils in a bath will help to get you through the cold, dark months.

Healthy nutrition will also help, so eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg but cut out all the sugary snacks. St. John’s Wort supplements are also a little boost to the system and make sure that you get plenty of B vitamins. And to top it all off, even though you won’t feel like it, exercise. This will release your ‘feel good’ hormones.

So if you’re feeling a little bit blue about the changes, try a few of the above ideas to see if they can help. Just remember- if you’re thinking of mixing an aromatherapy blend, please get the advice of an experienced aromatherapist first- i.e. me!

Quick Cure for Headache - Aromatherapy

If you've ever got a painful headache, think minty fresh. Aromatherapy is a great therapy for many ailments, headaches included. If like my other half, you feel like lying on the sofa for hours on end, convinced you are living out your last moments, think again. Think minty fresh. A simple blend of peppermint and lavender essential oils should relieve your pain in no time. Either use a hot compress and place on your forehead until the pain eases, or dilute in a carrier oil and massage it onto the forehead and scalp. Or another alternative is to use it in a steam inhalation. Whichever method you choose, you should feel the pain quickly drifting away. If you want a double whammy of help, why not combine it with an Indian Head Massage? Extra soothing. So now there's no excuse to get out of doing any cleaning :)

Continuing saga of Sock's tail and Reiki

So...I was treating Sock's tail with Reiki and it seemed to be going really well - he did not seem to experience any pain when he hit it against something. Yipee! The reiki worked! However... being a dog, he chewed his plaster contraption off his tail and then on Saturday night when our visitors came around, got very excited and wagged and wagged his tail still it hit something and started to bleed again! Argghh. So I have not yet re-plastered it but have been administering more Reiki - fingers crossed, so far it seems to be ok. I don't know whether the power of the Reiki will protect it completely so am in two minds what to do. I'll give it a day or two and decide....

My First Post - Reiki and my Dog

Welcome to my first post. It's a hard one to know what to write. I'm not going to explain in detail about what I do etc as all of that is in my profile, so I thought I'd just share my latest experience with Reiki. I have lately been practising my Reiki in a slightly more unusual way than normal. My rescue greyhound, Socks (a very dignified name for a greyhound), has had problems with his tail ever since we got him. Before we brought him home, he had had an operation to amputate the end of his tail as he had split it from too much wagging! Now what does that tell you about his temperament? This was supposed to have healed over a month ago, but when the dressing was removed, he immediately split it again, from too much wagging, leaving our house looking like a murder scene. This wouldn’t do, so the vet’s next idea was to attach a shuttlecock to the end of his tail. Don’t laugh, as this actually worked. Apart from shattering a good few Christmas baubles, and the posh ones at that, it actually protected the tail, whilst allowing it to heal. However, nothing is safe from the strong jaws of Socks, so the shuttlecock eventually came off, causing yet again, more blood and pain. The vet is now out of ideas and has told us the last option is to simply try some plasters and if they don’t work then poor old Socks is going to have to have more of his tail off. So I’ve now taken matters into my own hands! I have twice performed Reiki on Sock’s tail, hoping that the holistic and eastern approach might help with the healing. Giving Reiki to animals is a different experience to humans as they only take exactly the amount of healing and energy that they want from you and then they let you know that they’re done. Whereas a treatment on a human will last about an hour, you’re lucky to get 10 minutes out of a dog. So picture me lying on the floor, next to my greyhound with my hands cupped around his tail and then 10 minutes later getting a forceful kick in the head and a dismissive flick of the tail. I’ve yet to finish my treatments with Socks as I’m determined that he’s not going to get any more of his tail amputated and I think the Reiki is working. Both times that I have treated him I have experienced the Reiki tunnel and been aware of waves of purple healing. The fact that the first time I tried it automatically sent him to sleep is also testament to the healing strength of the Reiki. I’m hoping that the more I practise it, the more he will get used to it and the more his tail will heal. Right, better prepare myself for another boxing match as I try and help the beast. I’ll keep you posted…
